The Sun: December 6th, 2006 Clubs ring in the cash Gaelic Telecom's fundraising scheme for GAA clubs has enjoyed a bumper year - and that means a cash bonanza for grassroots outfits. Nationally €430,000 has been generated for clubs and county boards during the first six months of the year and a €1 million payout is anticipated. The fund is a stunning 71 per cent up on last year - and that means a big spin-ff for clubs and schools. Gaelic Telecom boss Gerry O'Connell said: "The money going back is growing at a rapid rate. We are delighted to be signing bigger and better cheques each time. This tells us very simply that the initiative is working and the money going back to local clubs is making a big difference. We have had some fantastic feedback from clubs in many different counties, which we are delighted to get. We are totally committed to building on our success to date and putting more and more money back to all GAA clubs and Primary Schools nationwide." Gaelic Telecom is keen to promote its voice and broadband service to GAA members and supporters. And so bosses are delighted with the success of the scheme which helps generate revenue for local GAA outfits. As part of the special fund raising initiative Gaelic Telecom gives 15 per cent of customers' monthly call charges back to the county boards, clubs and National Schools nominated by their customers. |
