Limerick Leader - County Edition, Page S 4, 19-Apr-2008 Gaelic Telecom Limerick GAA clubs have earned themselves over €55,000 just by talking. Local clubs involved with Gaelic Telecom raised the amount during the last six months of 2007. Of the Munster payout, 17 per cent was given to Limerick meaning that the €55,393.55 earned will be used to develop the grassroots of the organisation and help to develop club facilities throughout the county. In total a sum of over €100,000 was received by the county through their affiliation with the organisation. Almost all clubs in Limerick are involved with the organisation with Monaleen and Athea being the clubs with the two largest numbers of customers. "Through working with Gaelic Telecom the club received in excess of €3,500 in the past twelve months," explained Mary Smith, secretary of Monaleen GAA club."The costs for the everyday running of the club are constantly on the increase and this money has been a great boost for the everyday running of the club." To be honest, there isn't too much to it. Gaelic Telecom does all the work and makes it so much easier for all clubs to benefit. It's an excellent opportunity for both the club and supporters and we would recommend everyone to get involved." Nationally, €2.9m has been raised over the past three years for the grassroots of the GAA. During 2007 alone, €1.4m was raised nationally which was up by 35% on the previous year. |
