GAA announce telecom funds

The GAA has announced that they expect to raise €500,000 for grassroots projects over the next 12 months from their partnership with Gaelic Telecom.

The first full round of payments totalling almost €100,000 was announced yesterday with payments going directly to clubs and county boards around Ireland.

The highest earning clubs will receive almost €4,000 depending on the number of members who switched their phones to Gaelic Telecom. "We are extremely grateful to all members and supporters for joining this simple initiative which is raising significant money for the grass roots of the Association," said GAA President Sean Kelly. The funds were raised by members and supporters of the GAA who switched their phone service to Gaelic Telecom.

The GAA controversially launched the project last year just weeks after the Gaelic Players Association announced a similar scheme - 15% of the value of subscribers' call charges are rebated to their nominated club or county.
It is reckoned that clubs have the potential to raise as much as €9,000 per annum.
