Evening Echo: March 30th, 2007 Gaelic Telecom raises GAA funds Munster users of Gaelic Telecom have raised €152,000 to develop GAA clubs and to promote games at primary school level. Gaelic Telecom, the official telecommunications partner to the GAA, announced that €1.01 million has been raised in 2006 for clubs. Twice a year, Gaelic Telecom gives funds to GAA clubs and Cumann na mBunscol Primary Schools. In 2006, funds raised by Gaelic Telecom users grew by 35%. Nickey Brennan, president of the GAA, said: "Gaelic Telecom along with GAA members and supporters are to be applauded for this great achievement. Not only do our GAA communities benefit across the country at club level but the community also benefits through the great value and service provided by our official telecoms partner - Gaelic Telecom." Mr Brennan encouraged all members of the GAA to give serious consideration to joining this initiative. When a member or supporter joins Gaelic Telecom, 15% of the value of every call they make goes directly back to their nominated GAA club or school. Payments are made directly back to the clubs once every six months. Gerry O'Connell, general manager of Gaelic Telecom, said: "It's great to see that the money going back to local clubs is making a big difference. He added: "Gaelic Telecom is totally committed to building on our success to date and putting more and more money back into all GAA clubs and primary schools nationwide." Gaelic Telecom provides a service to over 50,000 homes and businesses across the 32 counties and is licensed by the Communications Regulator. |
