Business Broadband FAQs


Q. What is Gaelic Telecom Broadband?

A. Gaelic Telecom Broadband is a high-speed connection to the Internet. It is up 40 times faster than a dial up connection. This enables you to view web content and download files very quickly. It's called broadband because it has a much larger capacity to receive and send data. Gaelic Telecom Broadband is a bundled product that is offered alongside your telephone calls and line rental.

Q. How much does it cost?

A. As a business customer of Gaelic Telecom you have the choice of five broadband options. A full list of these options is available in the business broadband section.

Q. What exactly does Free Broadband mean?

A. Free Broadband refers to our 1 Mbps 'Always On' broadband product. It is available to companies spending more than €125 on telephone call charges (excluding line rental, teleservices & VAT).

Q. What if I have Free Broadband and my the telephone bill is under ¤125?

A. If your call charges do not exceed €125 per month, you will only get charged ¤16.53 (ex vat) for an Always On business broadband connection.

Q. What are the set up costs?

A. There is once off connection fee of ¤44.99. A modem or Router is also required. If you do not already have a router we will supply one free of charge.

Q. How fast is Gaelic Telecom Broadband connection?

A. Gaelic Telecom offers download speeds of up to 5Mb and upload speeds of up to 512K (depending on the Gaelic Telecom Broadband package you select). This means you can download information at a very high speed.

Q. What is the contention ratio on the Gaelic Telecom broadband product?

A. Contention ratios may vary depending on the product you select, however our contention ratios would typically be 48:1 for our Options 1 & 2 packages but these would reduce to a ratio of 24:1 for our Options 3, 4 and 5.

Q. Does Gaelic Telecom Broadband have download or upload limits?

A. With the Gaelic Telecom Business broadband packages, all packages are unlimited.

Q. What equipment do I need?

A. All you need is a computer that meets the minimum requirements operating on Windows '98 SE or above. You require a telephone line that has been Broadband enabled. You will require a Broadband Router and phone adapter. Both items are free of charge with our business broadband products and come together with your router.

Q. What are filters and why do I need them?

A. Filters are small adapters you need to plug into your Broadband phone sockets. It makes sure that the digital broadband signals do not interfere with your voice calls. This allows you to talk on the phone while simultaneously using the Internet at high speed.

Q. Will an engineer call to my business?

A. No engineer will call to your business premises as Gaelic Telecom Broadband is a self-install service.

Q. Can I install Gaelic Telecom Broadband by myself?

A. Yes, setting up your Gaelic Telecom Broadband connection is very simple. We will provide you with a Starter Pack that will explain each step in the set up process in simple, non-technical terms. Q. How long before my Broadband connection is working?

A. Once we have transferred your telephone line to Gaelic Telecom which normally takes 10 working days, we will then apply for Gaelic Telecom Broadband on that line which should be completed within a further 10 working days.

Q. How long is the contract term?

A. There is a minimum contract of 12 months. Thereafter Gaelic Telecom require a 3 month notice period for disconnection to the service. Should you wish to disconnect within the 12-month contract a fee of ¤99 will be applied to your account, alongside any outstanding charges for services applicable to the 12-month minimum period of the contract. After the initial 12-month agreement, 3 months written notice is required.

Q. What are my payment options?

A. Gaelic Telecom require a direct debit payment. This is an advanced monthly payment that is debited from your company bank account or credit card.

Q. What happens if I have an ISDN Line?

A. If you have an ISDN or "Hi-Speed" line, you must first downgrade this telephone line to an "analogue" line. This can be done by request from your current provider. Once this has been completed by your current provider, please apply for the Gaelic Telecom Broadband service in the normal way. Please note Gaelic Telecom cannot guarantee service once your downgrade has been completed. Broadband is provided only on analogue lines and if you have an ISDN or Hi-Speed line you need to be mindful of what you other services you are using.

Q. If I have a Broadband connection with another provider, who will cancel it when I join Gaelic Telecom Broadband?

A. On switching to Gaelic Telecom Broadband we will notify your current Broadband provider. In order for the transfer to take place your current contract period must have lapsed.

Q. If I connect to Gaelic Telecom Broadband, what do I need to do with my Internet dial-up account?

A. When you connect to broadband, you should contact your dial-up Internet Service Provider (ISP) to ensure that any previous dial-up settings to your Internet account are cancelled. Gaelic Telecom accept no responsibility for call charges incurred by customers who continue to dial-up to the Internet when they have Gaelic Telecom Broadband installed.

Q. Are there any services that are incompatible with Gaelic Telecom Broadband?

A. Yes.

  1. Monitored Alarms.
  2. Telephone systems.
  3. P.C's with an operating system of Windows '98 First Edition or below.

Q. Can I have a monitored alarm service and still get Gaelic Telecom Broadband?

A. Unfortunately Gaelic Telecom cannot supply broadband to lines with monitored alarms at this time.

Q. What if I have a PBX in my business?

A. If your line is on a PBX you will be unable to avail of Gaelic Telecom Business Broadband.
