What is my email address going to be? Q. What is Gaelic Telecom Broadband?A. Gaelic Telecom Broadband is a high-speed connection to the Internet. It is up 40 times faster than a dial up connection. This enables you to view web content and download files very quickly. It's called broadband because it has a much larger capacity to receive and send data. Gaelic Telecom Broadband is a bundled product that is offered alongside your telephone calls and line rental. Q. What does 'Always On' really mean?A. 'Always On' means 24/7 access to the Internet, whenever you want, subject to our acceptable usage policy. Q. How much does Gaelic Telecom broadband cost?A. The 'Always On' service will cost you just €10.03 per month. Gaelic Telecom Broadband is a bundled product that is offered alongside Gaelic Talk Anytime - you get unlimited voice calls to any, fixed line within the 32 Counties, 24 hours a day 7 days a week for just €12.04 per month. Your line rental stays the same so no change there. Q. Do I have to order online?A. No. You can order over the phone on 1890 929 422. However, as we want to deliver your order as soon as possible we would encourage you to join the thousands of people who have ordered online and have enjoyed a simple, seamless connection. Q. Does my telephone number change?A. Absolutely not, you keep the same number, nothing changes. Q. Will I get two bills?A. No. You will only receive one bill from us, for line rental, calls and broadband. Q. How often will I receive a bill?A. Every month by email with no charge. There is a charge of €1.25 per bill if you prefer a paper bill. Q. What happens if I have an ISDN Line?A. You must first downgrade this telephone line to an analogue line. Broadband is provided only on analogue lines so if you have an ISDN or Hi-Speed line you need to be mindful of what other services you are using as these services may affect your broadband service. There will be a variety of reasons for you to ensure that your family are using the Internet in a safe controlled environment. Whatever your requirements are - limit your children's online time, limit exposure to "mature" content, etc Gaelic Telecom Family Protection will give you peace of mind, in knowing that you are in control of how your family use the Internet.
Q. What are the set up costs?A. A modem or Router is also required. If you don't have one you can rent your Modem or Router from us for €5.01 per month, or purchase one for €60. Alternatively you can purchase one through a high street retailer. Q. What are my payment options?A. Gaelic Telecom offer 2 payment options
Q. I get my line rental paid by the government (DSFA allowance) what will happen if I move to Gaelic Telecom Broadband?A. No change. You will continue to receive your allowance in the same way; the only difference is that your credit is moved to your Gaelic Telecom account. Q. How fast is the Gaelic Telecom Broadband connection?A. Gaelic Telecom offers download speeds of up to 7.6Mb and upload speeds of up to 672kbps (depending on the Gaelic Telecom Broadband package you select). Q. What is the contention ratio on the Gaelic Telecom broadband product?A. Contention ratios would typically be 48:1 for our Always On services but these would reduce to a ratio of 24:1 for our up to 7.6mb and Talk Anytime services (typically for the heavy users). Q. What equipment do I need?A. Primarily you require a telephone line that has been Broadband enabled. You will also need a computer that meets the minimum requirements operating on Windows '98 SE or above. You will require a Broadband Router and phone adapter. Both items are available to rent or buy from Gaelic Telecom for as little as €5.01 per month. Alternatively you can elect to use or purchase your own router. Q. What are filters and why do I need them?A. A Filter is a small adapter that makes sure that the digital broadband signals do not interfere with your voice calls. It plugs into your phone socket and allows you to talk on the phone while simultaneously using the Internet at high speed. Q. Will an engineer need to call to my house?A. No, this is a simple self-install service. Q. Can I get help installing my Broadband?A. Absolutely. We will provide you with a starter pack that will explain each set up in the process. If you have trouble, please call our Technical Support Team on 1890 92 90 03 or if you have access to Email contact us on support@gaelictelecom.ie. Q. How long before my Broadband connection is working?A. Once we have transferred your telephone line to Gaelic Telecom, which normally takes up to 10 working days, your Gaelic Telecom Broadband connection should be completed within a further 7 - 10 working days. Q. How long is the contract term?A. There is a minimum contract of 12 months with broadband. Q. How do I cancel my current Broadband connection to join Gaelic Telecom?A. We will notify your current Broadband provider that you are moving your service to Gaelic Telecom. In order for the transfer to take place your current contract period must have lapsed. Q. When I connect to Gaelic Telecom Broadband, what do I need to do with my Internet dial-up account?A. To ensure you are not being charged for your dial-up after you have joined Gaelic Telecom Broadband you should contact your dial-up Internet Service Provider (ISP) to cancel any previous dial up settings. Q. Who do I contact if I have technical difficulties?A. Please call our Technical Support Team on 1890 92 90 03 - Calls are charged at 33c per minute or if you have access to Email please contact us on support@gaelictelecom.ie. Q. Are there any services that are incompatible with Gaelic Telecom Broadband?A. Yes. If you have Windows '98 First Edition or below or telephone systems we are unable to guarantee you our service. Q. Can I have a monitored alarm service and still get Gaelic Telecom Broadband?A. Yes, although you will need to place a splitter on your main phone line.
Q. Can I use my telephone and television while using Gaelic Telecom Broadband?A. Of course. Your broadband connection will not interfere with your telephone or television connection. No extra phone line is required. Q. If I move house during the period of the contract, can I take my Gaelic Telecom Broadband contract with me?A. No, unfortunately this contract will be terminated. Each contract is specific to a particular line, account number and address; you will have to begin a new contract at your new address. Q. What is my email address going to be?A. Once you have registered at www.mygaelic.ie you can select your email addresses by simply entering your chosen names followed by @gaelic.ie (e.g., joe.bloggs@gaelic.ie). |
